A note to my former self

Dear Pre-Kids Kristin,

There is so much ahead for you. There are so many smiles and blessings and laughs and tears. So many memories that you will cherish. The future is bright and one that will make you happy. Maybe if you knew that you could stop and enjoy the ride a little more. If only I could wisk you away and talk some sense into you and impart some advice about the road ahead.

Go out and buy yourself some really awesome new clothes. Spend as much as you want. This is your last chance. For years to come most of the stuff you will be buying will be diapers and Stride Rite shoes.

Buy them for the size you are now. You are thin and pretty soon a size 8 will sound fantastically small. You don’t need to wear a size 6. You are 5’10” for goodness sake!

Go get a cup of coffee and sit in silence. Read a book and enjoy time alone.

Your breasts may be too small for your liking, but hey, they are perky. Enjoy that.

Wear a bikini everyday. Your bod is smokin’ NOW, show it off while you can. After you give birth your midriff won’t again see the light of day.

Sit down and eat 10 candy bars. You aren’t going to gain weight. This will change.

Go to the movies and don’t go see a cartoon just because it looks fun. You will see them all later.

Spend all day Saturday in bed with your husband. This won’t happen again. In the rare case that it does, sleeping will be ALL that is on your mind.

Take lots of pictures of yourself. This will be the proof that you once looked like you do. You will cling to those memories.

Enjoy being selfish. In good measure. It’s the one time in your life that it is acceptable. Buy yourself some nice things, go away for the weekend, go to the movies, get a pedicure, enjoy time with your husband. These things won’t be available for a while. Stop stressing out about nothing. Your life is more simple than you think.

Love,

Post-Kids Kristin

Dear Mother of 3 kids under the age of 4 Kristin,

You spend too much time worrying about how you are doing as a mother. Get out and spend time with your little ones while they are still little and they think you are a super hero. Try and holler at them less, laugh with them more and play with them as much as you can. This time in your life is small. Most importantly, take a valium and enjoy the ride.

Love,

Your inner voice

Dang girl - I could've told you all that! Remember when you came up to visit when Evan was only a few months old? You guys weren't even married yet.
Sorry 'bout that....

Yeah, thanks Kelly, you had your chance and fed me to the wolves. Of course you had a smokin bod after you had kids so shut up.

Carolyn - when I was single and kid free I just kept wanting to be married with kids. Stupid girl!

Mimi- tell me about it!!

L - Honey, it's what gets us moms through toddlerhood...and childhood...and teenagers...and menopause.....

I always wanted to be married & thougt it never would happen. I then, was married at age 21. Had my 1st child at 22. What is life without kids?

Your kids are still so young, I remember when I had 3 all under the age of 4. Now I have 4 & the youngest turns 5 in a few weeks.

We want time to fly faster until it does, then we wonder where it went. To bad we don't know all of this before hand.

You crack me up!!! So true. I actually got all teary-eyed when I read the one about yelling less, laughing more and enjoying super-hero status.

You are amazing!!!! :o)

You are right, Kelly had a great body after having her kids. I still hold it against her to this day!! Griffin and Olivia are 5 weeks apart and she didn't even look like she had just given birth, meanwhile I got "so when is your baby due?". He is right here, thanks. I'm sure you are beautiful, and really do your kids care if you are a size 6 or a size 12, (me I'm quite a bit higher than that, but whatever)as long as you can play, they are happy. Hopefully we all can stay super-heros forever!!!
